1. From the tool palette below, please identify the gradient tool, the pen tool, and the tool you would use to make a shape of any color.

The gradient tool is the one in the shape of a box that is increasing in darkness. The pen tool is the one that is in the shape of a calligraphy pen and the tool to make a shape of any color is the one with the icon of the box that is pure gray rather than the mixed color of the gradient tool.

2. Let’s say you would like to use the gradient tool. You find the tool icon, click on it, then click on your the bottom part of your image and drag up. What will your gradient look like? Be sure to consult the settings below:

The bottom of the screen will be dark but increase in light as you go up.

3. Next, you decide to change the appearance of your gradient. Instead of a gradient that transitions from one solid color to another, you would like to use a gradient that transitions from a solid color to transparent. How can you do this? To start, where do you click on the settings bar (see above.)

You click on the second icon going right on the bar in photo shop. This icon shows the color going from black to white and when you click on it you have the option to select a color going to checkerboard which represents transparency.

4. Moving on, you select the pen tool. You make a few anchor points and close your selection. Have you made a path or vector art? Consult the settings below:

6. Now, select the correct tool to make a rectangle. Based on the following settings, what color will the rectangle be?

7. If you decide to make a circle instead of rectangle, where will you click to make this change?

I would click on the same icon and hold it down but rather than choosing rectangle tool I would choose Ellipse tool.

8. What dpi do you use for proper screen resolution?

9. What does “dpi” stand for?

Dots per inch

10. Which image will print larger? A or B? Why?

A will print larger because although it looks smaller now it is 50% where as the B is 66.67%
